I have been told my dealer that replacing even one bulb is such an extensive job, that they go ahead and replace them all, and charge you for that" "The lightbulbs have started to go out on my dash. You can hit the top of the dash with you fist, sometimes the dash lights come on, sometimes half of the dash lights come back on, sometimes no light will come back on." "Gauge cluster had to be replaced to bypass the engine Immobilizer, for car o start.," "the lighting for gauges and clock sometimes do not come on" "Odometer lights keep going out after a year or two" If you hit the dash with you hand the light wil come back on" "There is an intermittent connection that caused the dash lights to go off. "THE MIRROR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR DOES MOVE" "Clock is always running fast after a short period" I could hear the motor engage, but the wind wouldn't more. Using the window button, I heard a snap and the window fell into the door and became unresponsive. "Didn't know where to put this problem - both driver and passenger front windows failed. I blame it on the use of salt brine on the roads in NJ. "rotors warped and caused a vibration in the steering wheel" "Aftermarket caliper failure led to premature brake and rotor failure Monro Muffler wanted to charge me $250 for rotors I could have purchased for $40" "The brake system had been problematic - three new sets of brakes in six years" I have never had issues like this with any other car I've owned" Sometimes one/yr, sometimes more than one/yr. "The brakes on the car have been one of the biggest costs to me over the years. "Had to have brakes and rotors replaced within 2 years" I'm not sure if the brakes are under-rated for this duty or possibly water gets behind the calipers and freezes them so they don't float" The rotors become heavily worn and pitted. "The brake pedal needed to be pushed down further to stop the vehicle." Every so often the brakes get "stuck" but it always clears it self. "Calipers locked up resulting in caliper and pad failure" "calipers get stuck and won't self adjust. "Yearly brake problems with the calipers freezing causing pad and rotor failure." "stuck rear caliper-constant drag on rear brake" "Rear calipers were replaced two years ago and failed April 2015" According to the Element boards this is common" They tend to seize up, causing heat, smoke, smells, and noticeable driving issues. "I am now on my third set of rear brakes / calipers / rotors in the last 3 years. "seem to have to have vehicle aligned every 12 months, this can't be normal?" However, before the appointment I had had a flat tire and had the work done the next day, unfortunately at a different shop." Scheduled a return for tie rod later that week and delayed buying tires until after. "Bad tie rods were seen on routine maintenance. "Car was making suspension related noises. While not extraordinarily expensive, it still was a significant cost (approaching $2,000 for a rebuilt unit)" "The rack and pinion steering needed replacing. Steering linkage (includes rack and pinion) "Rear suspension problems, noise, costing over $1200" "Car was purchased from an area that used salt in the winter, excessive rust caused replacement of most of the suspension parts." "Worn out, needed to be replaced, expensive" but replaced both at one time because of high mileage and taking time away from work" "rear struts needed replacement after 170000 miles. Shocks/struts had to be replaced to pass inspection" "right rear shock started to leak, so replaced all four" "Front struts were making noise ang needed replacement" Another problem was a loud steaming noise coming out of the car and when I stopped at stop lights the car would jerk forward even though I had my foot on the break and then it would stall at the light." I would have to literally put all my strength to steer. "The steering wheel would get really difficult to turn. "The leak caused a fan belt to brake down, requiring replacement" However, I drive rural (dirt, gravel, chip & seal) roads with potholes daily" "This is a recurring issue with my element. The did did have 130,000 miles so I don't feel too bad about that" "Had to replace the Compliance bushing in the front suspension. "The seals for the ball joints break so the grease can leak out and for dirt to get into the joint" In the This was a very expensive repair." Trip 3 the dealer installed OEM ball joints. Trips 1 and and 2 the dealer installed after market ball joints to save money The rubber boots lasted last than 8 months. Ball joints were among the items replaced." "Car was making suspension-related noises. "With the replacement of the tie rod and the new tires, I needed an alignment." ![]()
